COMFORT
Places in the sky where your
name is but yellow
grindings, the resin
of an alabaster sunset.
Seagulls
in theories of return. Squared sails
give metrics to the sea.

JEUX DE VAGUES
A wave should die in its rush –
take on form, sense; and slowly, slowly,
smiling as it recalls the open sea, vanish
into the unconscious of the sand, towards dreamt-of
subterranean layers in the underworld.
It happens, though, that the most imperious currents
cause some waves to move in reverse, until they clash
with soft white violence against the flow.
Thus am I – all things offend me
in my non-being. Like a glistening expanse
this earthy Poet lets pour through his hands
into verse the reliquary of his loves.
And every little sea – every tear of mine
faces the world shorn
of any meaning at all.
